Clean points island network (Deixalleries)

What is a collection centre?

A clean point are facilities where waste is received and transferred, where services are provided to the local inhabitants and which has the following objectives:

  • Favour the reuse, recycling and recovery of waste.
  • Facilitate the management of waste for which there is no clearly defined management.
  • Provide an outlet to waste which the user is not sure what to do with.
  • Educate and raise awareness of the public about the need to correctly manage waste.

These are supervised and closed facilities with various containers where selective waste can be deposited and with a warehouse for depositing domestic waste classed as dangerous (fluorescents, paint, solvents, mineral oil, batteries, etc.).

Who can use the clean points?

Any resident, visitor, or enterprise may use the clean points, provided they respect their rules of use and provided the material to be deposited is admissible and does not exceed the capacity of the facilities.

What is done with the material that is collected?

Thanks to the functioning of these clean points, all this material that is collected has received the best environmentally possible treatment:

  • Whenever possible, the collected material is reused, such as the case of furniture or electrical appliances.
  • When this is not possible, the recycling and recovery of the waste is favoured, for example, scrap, vegetable oil, pruning and garden waste, paper-cardboard, glass, packs, etc. which are used to obtain new raw materials.
  • Lastly, and as a final option (when the reuse and recycling is not possible), any waste which cannot be used is taken to the landfill at Ca Na Putxa for controlled elimination.
  • Dangerous waste is sent to plants for decontamination and use of the materials, if possible.
